Wild Gray Goose

Celtic tradition identifies the Holy Spirit as a Wild Goose. He is the wings of a Wild God best followed by the wildest of men. I'm gray. I'm wild. Like He, I am not always predictable, rational, or safe. I believe my full life and my still maturing years of Walking With God offer both heart and substance for younger lads to consider. Now with 4th stage prostate cancer, following the Wild Goose has a different pace and perspective worth reflecting on...and sharing.

Location: Full Time RV, mostly near Temecula, California, United States

I'm a young fella not far from 73 who's made it to the far and frayed edges of the adventures I‘ve been hankering for since boyhood. The age thing and my pursuits are relevant since I now have advanced 4th stage cancer, moved from unsuccessful chemo treatment to oral med...and they seem to be working. Now, after selling the ranch, my beautiful life-mate of 48 years and I live and travel in an fifth wheel RV we call our "covered wagon". The new and rich development of 2012 is our purchase of ranch in the marvelous plateau above GRAND JUNCTION at the head of the Colorado National Monument where my young family with six children run a whole-family therapy ranch, DEEP RIVERS FAMILY RANCH.

I TALKED TO SOME ELDERLY PEOPLE ABOUT SIGNIFICANCE

I keep looking around to spot the "elderly" that news bites talk about.  Whoever they are, they are much older than I.

But that reference did bring a chuckle tonight to a room full of "elderly" at an RV resort Bible study. We were talking about how significant the remainder of our short life can still be.  "Finishing well" we call it.  Take a moment to reflect.

Some of us at the latter stages have been successful.  That's where our inner drive is rewarded with admiration and rewards of all sorts.  But you can't take success into Heaven.  No yardstick for "success" beyond the "gates".  But significance rolls on generation after generation. And the markers are found when the "roll is called up yonder" and those we've lead to saving faith, caused to grow, or who followed our Walk as a model will welcome us Home or will greet us upon their arrival behind us.

But you were wondering, weren't you?  About the status of my new parallel Walk with God and with cancer.  So, we're still talking about finishing well.  Thanks for asking.  We're back to standard treatment protocols for stage four prostate cancer.  The Lord didn't give us the shortcut that was teasing us, so now its hormone treatments and an optimistic Urologist.

Let's tie it all together.  I'm on call.  I'm on a short leg of the Journey. I'm aiming for significance in how I affect my wife, my friends, and I prize my primary mission, building a significent legacy through my grandchildren that will extend generation after generations.

THREE GENERATIONS ON A CATTLE DRIVE.
SEE ANYTHING SIGNIFICANT IN THAT?
